Samples are sent with the Tempus600® sending station (A) and arrive in the receiving unit in the lab (B). Samples are placed directly on the GLP tracking system using the GLP FIFO robot (C) and continue the journey on the track (D).
On the request of the Clinical Immunology and Biochemistry Department at Sygehus Lillebælt Hospital, Timedico A/S (today Sarstedt ApS) developed Tempus600® – a unique solution for the dedicated transport of small clinical samples. Tempus600® is the only solution on the market that can be connected directly to GLP – a fully automatic transport system for laboratories.
GLP optimises the feed of samples on the transport system in the laboratory and this makes the Tempus600® system a key factor in the pre-analytical process.
Hospitals in the Danish administrative region of Region of Southern Denmark, including Vejle Hospital and Kolding Hospital, have a fully automatic connection with the Tempus600®/GLP System.
Vejle Hospital has implemented nine Tempus600® systems, and Kolding Hospital has implemented twelve systems each of which is located in different departments. The blood samples are transported from the departments through the dedicated point-to-point system to the laboratory.
When the samples arrive in the laboratory, a robot places them directly onto the GLP track system using a FIFO principle (First In - First Out). The transport system then moves the samples to the centrifuge and analysis machines.
The complete Tempus600®/GLP System solution has reduced the total turnaround time (ToTAT) from the taking of a blood sample and until the doctor can give the results of the test to the patient, from 2–3 hours to less than 60 minutes.
Staff who work with blood samples at the hospitals that have implemented the Tempus600® solution no longer need to bundle blood samples together and pack and unpack them. With the new system, samples only need to be handled once – when they are placed in the sending station. Everything else is fully automatic. This ensures secure handling of the samples and releases resources for the benefit of patients.
From a hemolysis perspective, the Tempus600®/GLP System combination has proven to be a safe solution as shown in the study “Stability of Biochemical Components in Blood Samples Transported by Tempus600®/GLP Robot Reception System 2016”.
