Sygehus Lillebælt Hospital in Denmark introduced a new method for analysing urine infections and for the screening of abnormal urinary tract cells using flow cytometry and algorithms for image analysis, and this meant that the time taken to transport urine samples to the laboratory was an important factor.
The University of Southern Denmark and Sygehus Lillebælt Hospital therefore looked at the possibility of transporting these diagnostic analyses and other test tubes using the Tempus600® compressed air system. The documented results showed that a number of analyses of urine could be transported in this way, and the time for the process – from the taking of samples to the receiving of analysis results – was reduced to approximately 15 minutes.
The project and the results are published in CCLM.
The world’s first scientific article documenting that urine samples can be transported in a compressed air system and used for diagnostics, delivering ultra-fast results to doctors – in just 15 minutes.
The system is already installed and running at Sygehus Lillebælt Hospital in Denmark, used for diagnostics in the development of a new standard package process for acute hospitalised patients.
Hospitals using Tempus600® systems can immediately use the systems to transport urine samples from different departments, for example the emergency department, medical department, urology department and kidney department.
The automated transport of urine samples minimises the risk of incorrect results caused by long transport times, incorrect handling and errors in manual registrations.
