A new internal transportation system has minimized the Emergency Room turn-around time for blood samples at Oulu Hospital, Helsinki - the second largest hospital in Finland.
Oulu University Hospital
Within minutes of arrival, blood samples are drawn and transported from ER to the lab, thus reducing turn-around time for crucial samples. This results in turn-around times of around 20 minutes from samples being drawn until receiving the results of the analysis.
"The clinicians were so happy about the results of Tempus600, that they wanted to buy their own system for the ward." says Tiina Lehto, Clinical Biochemist, Joint Municipal Service Provider of Northern Finland Laboratory Centre (NordLab).
Implementing the Tempus600 solution has streamlined the handling of blood samples and the workflow has become significantly more efficient.
"Now staff don't have to pack and unpack the samples in canisters, instead they can concentrate on their primary tasks. There is a much better workflow and we have improved and optimized the processes and procedures. This fits in nicely with our lean thinking", explains Tiina Lehto.
Because of the positive effect of Tempus600 at ER, the hospital has bought 1 additional system, but there are already some thought and ideas for more Tempus600 solutions to be installed in other departments in the hospital.
